Education and Local Economy Scrutiny Commission
Purpose of committee
This commission is a sub-committee of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee and has been established to examine and monitor the performance of services provided by the Council and other agencies in matters regarding education and local economy.
In recent years, it has reviewed topics such as adult education, exclusions and alternative provisions, revitalising high streets and town centres, future of work and enterprise In Southwark. As well as, children’s experiences and education during the Covid-19 pandemic, Youth New Deal, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and children’s education looking at shortfalls in primary pupil numbers.
