There are growing concerns regarding the safety of dogs in our community, particularly during the spring and summer seasons. There have been multiple instances where dogs have run into the streets, not due to behavioural issues, but as a result of their natural instincts to hunt or mate. This poses a significant risk, not only to the dogs themselves, who are at risk of being hit by vehicles, but also to pedestrians and motorists.
Additionally, during these warmer months, it becomes increasingly challenging to allow dogs to roam freely in parks and public spaces. Many people engage in picnics and outdoor activities, often leaving behind food waste that can be harmful or even fatal to dogs. Toxic substances, such as certain foods and packaging materials, pose serious health risks if ingested by animals.
In light of these concerns, we respectfully request the council to consider measures that can protect both dogs and the public. These measures may include:
- Designated fenced areas for dogs to run freely without risking
exposure to street traffic.
- Increased signage in parks to raise awareness about the dangers
of leaving food waste unattended.
We believe that these actions will not only improve the safety and well-being of our pets but also contribute to a more harmonious community for everyone.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. We look forward to your support in addressing these concerns.
