We have serious concerns regarding excessive vehicle speeds along Hollydale Road, particularly as vehicles approach and pass through the junction with Evelina Road. The current layout and traffic conditions create an environment that feels unsafe for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike.
Parents have expressed particular concern about the safety of children crossing or walking near the junction. Older residents and disabled people have also highlighted the increased risks they face due to speeding traffic, limited crossing opportunities, and reduced reaction times for vehicles approaching the junction. These conditions create avoidable danger and undermine confidence in using local streets safely.
We believe that road design must prioritise safety and wellbeing. Streets should be planned and managed in a way that protects people, reduces the likelihood and severity of collisions, and supports healthy, active travel for residents of all ages and abilities.
In light of these concerns, we formally call on the Council to:
- Conduct an urgent safety review of the Hollydale Road /
Evelina Road junction.
- Assess traffic speeds and patterns along Hollydale Road.
- Implement appropriate safety measures, which may include traffic
calming interventions, improved pedestrian crossings, enhanced
visibility, speed reduction measures, or other necessary
engineering solutions.
We ask the Council to treat this matter as a priority and to work with residents to ensure that meaningful and effective safety improvements are delivered.
We look forward to seeing concrete steps taken to improve safety at this junction for the benefit of the whole community.
