Councillor Wingfield, cabinet member for environment and the public realm, introduced the report and set out the key issues.  He agreed that air quality is crucial issue and described the programmes in place locally and jointly via the Greater London Authority.  Councillor Wingfield and Matt Hill, head of highways, answered the committee’s questions about aspects of the department’s work and areas of improvement in their processes.  The committee agreed that it would be valuable to include the police in any future sessions on road safety.
