Review 2: Care in our community

This is the first meeting of the review into Care in the Community

 

  How are we delivering on the Care Home Improvement Strategy?

 

  How are we delivering on the Southwark Ethical Care Charter?

 

  What is our approach to Home care and reablement?

 

  What further things should we be doing as a Council to support care in our community?

 

There will be a presentation by the  :

 

·  CQC

·  Cabinet member – with council and CCG officers

·  Age Concern Lay inspectors

 

 

Helen Wells, Inspection Manager for Southwark, Care Quality Commission (CQC), will attend to present on their inspection programme with care homes.

 

She will speak with particular reference to concerns about three care homes, two of which have been rated as Inadequate:  Burgess Park & Tower Bridge and one which Requires Improvement: Camberwell Green. By way of comparison she will also speak about the Outstanding practice at Greenhive House.

 

Background material is included on all of the care homes in question. A compilation and summary of all the published inspection reports for the four homes in question since 2011 is included for Burgess Park, Tower Bridge, Camberwell Green and Greenhive House, along with the full report of the most recent inspection.

The chair invited the Cabinet member, Councillor Stephanie Cryan,  to present on the review themes, with support from council officers Andrew Loxton, Commissioning Manager and Rochelle Jamieson, Quality and Performance Manager and Southwark NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, Director of Quality and Safety, Gwen Kennedy.

 

Age Concern Chief Officers: Jacky Bourke-White and Joan Thomas, who delivers the  Home Care Lay Inspection project. Tom White, Volunteer Lay Inspector also contributed.

 

Helen Wells, Inspection Manager for Southwark, Care Quality Commission (CQC), presented on their inspection programme using the enclosed presentation and commented on Burgess Park,  Tower Bridge, Camberwell Green, and Greenhive House care homes.

 

 

 

RESOLVED

 

The CQC will supply their policy report on CCTV surveillance in care homes.

 

The provider of Burgess Park care home : Four Seasons, and the provider of Tower Bridge & Camberwell Green care homes : HC One, will be invited to give evidence at the next meeting as a formal interview, followed by a roundtable discussion on the review themes.
