Interview of Cabinet Member for Housing Management and Modernisation – Councillor Stephanie Cryan

Decision:

The Cabinet member for Housing Management and Modernisation councillor Stephanie Cryan summarised her portfolio and then took questions from members of the committee.

Minutes:

6.1 Councillor Stephanie Cryan attended the committee for her annual scrutiny interview – her portfolio is housing management and modernisation.  The chair invited her to give the committee an overview of her role. 

 

6.2 Modernisation:  Councillor Cryan told the committee that the council had just been through an assessment for the Investors In People accreditation and had retained its gold status.  She briefed the committee on the IT shared service, progress on Queens Road 4, improvements to the customer contact centre and work to end the use of single use plastic in the council. 

 

6.3 The committee asked questions about the performance and governance of the IT shared service, response to the recent cyber attacks on the council’s website, information sharing across council departments, managing change in the council, the ambition for carbon neutral council buildings and progress on the digital strategy (noting that Cllr Kieron Williams has the lead).

 

 

6.4 Housing management: Cllr Cryan introduced this part of her portfolio with a summary of the current work on Ledbury Estate, the in-house repairs service, domestic abuse, and resident involvement. 

 

6.5 The committee asked the cabinet member about the performance of the repairs service, policy on Airbnb, disposal of council properties, resident involvement, district heating systems, housing management staffing structure, rough sleepers and Right To Buy.
