Interview of Cabinet Member for Social Regeneration, Great Estates and New Council Homes – Councillor Leo Pollak

Minutes:

Councillor Leo Pollak attended the committee for his annual interview as a cabinet member - his portfolio is social regeneration, great estates and new council homes.  His role in social regeneration is to ensure that council is positioned to capture maximum additionality from developers, with particular emphasis on health and wellbeing.  Great estates is a programme of work to expand and enrich those council estates where new homes are being developed, the estate neighbours a big development, or there are problems with anti social behaviour or violence.  He is also responsible for the new homes programme.  

 

Committee members asked Councillor Pollak about performance against previous target for new homes, how the great estates programme will benefit existing tenants, valuation of homes being bought from developers, plans to control rents set by absentee leaseholders, progress on establishing a construction company, sites for new homes, design and build quality of new homes, Styles House, high streets. 



Action points arising from discussion:

 

·  Councillor Pollak to provide a breakdown of delivery of new homes 2014-18

·  Councillor Pollak to write to Councillor Linforth-Hall about valuation process when council purchases homes from developers

·  Councillor Pollak to update Councillor Chamberlain on Styles House

·  Councillor Humaira Ali to follow up with Councillor Pollak re St Saviours Estate
