Interview of Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance and Brexit – Councillor Victoria Mills

Councillor Victoria Mills attended the committee for her annual interview as a cabinet member - her portfolio is finance, performance and Brexit.  The chair invited her to give an overview of her role.  Councillor Mills set out her responsibilities for the council plan, the budget, policy in response to Brexit,  and Southwark Building Services (SBS).  She noted that the modernise work programme was no longer part of this cabinet portfolio, and was now undertaken by Councillor Cryan.  

 

Committee members asked Councillor Mills about performance management, budget pressures, housing repairs, secondary school provision, the council’s preparation for Brexit, the position around Interserve, costs in the licensing service, universal credit, procurement strategy, fossil fuel divestment

 

Action points arising from the discussion:  

 

·  Licensing - Cllr Mills to follow up question raised by Cllr Newens around actual costs to council of licensing applications - is there an opportunity for improved cost effectiveness?  

 

·  Brexit - Cllr Mills to send evidence from the Brexit panel to Cllr Humaira Ali 

 

·  Pensions - Cllr Mills to review pension strategy refresh 

 

·  Cllr Dennis to write to Cllrs Mills and Cryan about ward casework where universal credit is an issue
