SOUTHWARK BREXIT PANEL - RECOMMENDATIONS TO CABINET

To discuss the key findings from the evidence sessions which took place between July and October 2018, as well as the Southwark and LGA Regional Brexit Sounding Board in October 2018, and agree recommendations to Cabinet.

    Minutes:

The panel met to discuss a draft report outlining the findings of the 3 evidence sessions the Panel undertook in July, September and October 2018, as well as the Regional Brexit Sounding Board which took place on 30 October 2018.  The Chair advised that some additional background information would be added to the draft report ahead of the report going to Cabinet.

The Panel agreed to include a reference in the report to the fact that the evidence gathered by the Panel overwhelmingly made the case that remaining in the EU would be in the best interests of Southwark.

The Panel discussed the recommendations included in the draft report and agreed the following amendments:

    ·  Add a reference in recommendation 1 around financial risk planning.

    ·  Add a recommendation for the council’s emergency planning team to work with the police to tackle any public order challenges in the event of a ‘no deal’ Brexit.

    ·  Add a recommendation to the call on the cabinet to continue to press for the best outcome for Southwark.

Then Panel agreed that the revised report would go to Cabinet on 22 January 2019.
